Hewlett Packard has been the number 1 selling laptop manufacturer over the last 12 months and with the introduction of the HP 530 it's easy to see why. This entry level laptop has the brand name to deliver a quality product with some impressive features.

The HP 530 might not have the very latest, cutting edge technology under the bonnet but what it does deliver on is a fantastic build and the chassis, weighing in at 2.6kg makes this laptop feel like a £1000 + laptop. The 15.4 inch screen is held tightly into place which is a good sign of quality. Too many cheap laptops fail on design build quality, not the HP530.

The laptop has a hour and a half battery life (with power saving mode on) which is a good indication on the parts inside are not placing a burden on system resources - in other words, this is a sign of good quality components.

The screen isn't the brightest and this coupled with the integrated graphics chip equates to a non-gaming laptop but watching DVDs is acceptable thanks to a DVD rewriter. The 512MB of RAM is the base spec of modern laptops so opening up multiple applications is a no-no but simple photo editing and non memory intensive programmes is fine to run.

There is plenty of storage space on this mobile device. 80GB is the industry standard entry level size - and the processor is again the base Intel Celeron M 420.

Because of the low price the HP530 doesn't come with many extras but internet access is provded by a Wireless LAN - 802.11b /g (with built in antenna).

The HP530 makes an ideal laptop for those who are on a budget and require a basic mobile laptop that is perfect for web browsing, emailing and basic word processing applications.
